Give Give Give

I've not written a blog for a few weeks, only because I've not been sitting in a hospital bed bored out of my mind. I've been free for two weeks at home which has been tha bomb. Unfortunately my time at home is almost over and I am due back into hospital for 5 to 6 weeks at the beginning of next week, which you can imagine I'm dreading.

One of the things that I did over the weeks was chum my friends down to Haddington Corn Exchange to give blood. I didn't give blood obviously, I would have failed at the first question "Have you recently been ill?"..emm yes, also "Have you ever been a prostitute?"Joking...

Anyway, I know I have written a blog about this before. "Give blood! Give it! GIVE IT!!!" You are probably thinking, "what a wee pest." But I can't tell you how easy it is to give blood and how selfless it is. One of the excuses I heard for not giving blood was "Sorry, I have to revise." Fair enough if you don't do needles. So thanks to all the people I know that gave blood that night or tried to give blood, Lindsay, Ben, Sian, Gav, Kimberly, Rose, Rose's maw, Beth, Sam and all the rest.

Sadly, not all the people I knew could give blood, mostly because they had had a piercing done in the last year. Sian could't give blood because the nurse told her she couldn't find a vein. Everyone has veins!

One more thing I want to say. When I was in hospital I read a story on the Daily Mail about a guy called Will Pope who was in need of a Heart Transplant and he is only 20 years old! He only has weeks left to live, but on New Years Eve they got a phone call to say that their was a heart that would match Will's blood group, tissue and size. Will's transplant operation was extremely complex but I was so happy to hear that he is now recovering gradually in the Intensive Care Unit. Will and his family have been campaigning to get as many people to join the organ donor list. The idea of joining freaked me out a little bit as it would most people. But today I registered because I want to help save people's lives. Put yourself in the position of being sick for whatever reason in hospital and you need some sort of blood donation or organ and there aren't enough to go round. I hope that I can maybe convince even a few people to do this. If you give blood or join the Organ donor's list, you are saving peoples lives.

Here is one of the stories I read
